According to a social media post shared by his husband, Stephen Hanna-Shuford, the actor passed away in the early hours of January 3. He posted an emotional note along with the post that read that the actor will always be remembered. The post continued that “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that early this morning we said goodbye to the most amazing man, husband, and Papa in the universe. Bret Hanna-Shuford left this world peacefully with love surrounded by his family. Our hearts are broken, but we will continue to make him proud of us..”

Earlier in the summer last year, the stage actor had received the news that he had T-cell lymphoma. Not only that, but he was also diagnosed with an immune condition, hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. According to the Cleveland Clinic, this is “a rare and often life-threatening condition if left untreated.
