The Kollam city Corporation has expressed its willingness to allocate 7 acres of land at Kureepuzha, which is under its jurisdiction and ownership, as well as land in the Andamukkam area to establish an information technology (IT) park as part of the proposed Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam IT corridor project.

Following Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal’s announcement in the 2022-2023 State Budget to establish IT buildings spanning 5 lakh sq ft in Kollam, the Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Limited (KSITIL) was appointed to identify suitable land for the project. The Finance Minister had visited various potential sites in the district for the IT park.

According to Corporation officials, the KSITIL has inspected the sites and reported that both locations are suitable in the initial assessment. “Based on the report, the Corporation council has unanimously passed a resolution to accept the proposal for establishing an IT park in Kollam and to initiate necessary procedures,” said Mayor Prasanna Earnest.

Revenue sharing

The council has also approved a resolution agreeing to a revenue-sharing pattern with the relevant agency upon completion of the project. This resolution, along with detailed information about the reserved land for the project, has been submitted to the government.

The IT park coming up in Kollam is part of a larger initiative that intends to set up four IT corridors parallel to National Highway-66 which is being widened into four lanes. These corridors, which will extend from existing IT hubs in Kerala, are aimed at boosting the State’s IT sector. Proposed corridors are Technopark third phase to Kollam, Ernakulam to Koratty, Ernakulam to Cherthala and Kozhikode to Kannur. For the Technopark third phase to Kollam Corridor extension, an IT facility covering an area of 5,00,000 sq ft will be set up in Kollam.
