The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against a Chief Engineer of the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited and a private company, along with its directors, on bribery charge.

The accused persons have been identified as Sumeet Khajuria, a 2005-batch Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) officer posted as a Chief Engineer in the Konkan Railway, Paras Railtech Private Limited and its directors Rajesh Kumar Jain, Pushp Raj Singh and Sulabh Rawat. The case has been registered by the agency’s Delhi anti-corruption unit.

According to the First Information Report, Mr. Khajuria and the company directors were indulging in corrupt practices in clearing pending bills and revising estimates related to the removal of tunnel muck in the execution of the work order related to Katra-Dharam section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail link project supervised by Konkan Railway.

On January 30, 2025, Mr. Jain informed Mr. Khajuria that representatives of Paras Railtech had submitted a bill in his office and that a subordinate officer of Mr. Khajuria had made some adverse changes/remarks regarding the said bill.

The company director urged the Chief Engineer to intervene for getting the issue resolved. Mr. Khajuria promised to get the work done and asked Mr. Jain to meet him at his camp office in Jammu. In lieu of the favour, Mr. Jain made a commitment to deliver ₹10 lakh to Mr. Khajuria, as alleged.
