Heavy rains lashed Hyderabad on Thursday afternoon, bringing much-needed relief from the rising temperatures. However, the downpour also led to flooding in several parts of the city. According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), highest recorded rainfall was over 51 mm as of 4 p.m.
According to the data, Yousfuguda recorded the highest rainfall of 51.3 mm followed by 48 mm at Centre for Economic and Social Studies, 44.3 mm at Adarsh Nagar, 42.8 mm at Srinagar Colony, 42.5 in Balanagar, 42.3 at Banjara Hills, 40.8 mm at Gachibowli, 40.5 mm at Neredmet, 34.3 mm at Gajularamaram, 38 mm at Telecom Colony, 37.3 in Gajwel and 36.8 in Jeedimetla
With more expected across other areas in the next few hours, Hyderabadis are hoping that the weather doesn’t interfere with the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal this evening.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers, with occasional intense spells and gusty winds for Thursday evening and night in the Charminar, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad, and Serilingampally zones of Hyderabad. Many Hyderabadis have turned to social media to ask weather experts and the IMD about the rain forecast for Uppal during the match.
At 2 p.m., the IMD issued a rain warning for various parts of the state, including Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and Rangareddy districts, advising people to monitor the weather and be prepared to move to safer locations if conditions worsen. Then at 4 p.m, the IMD issued a moderate rain and thundershower alert for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.
The Director of Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management of GHMC took to X sharing the weather update and asking citizens to be vigilant.
Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd. (TSSPDCL) urged people to contact at its helpline numbers in case of issues with power supply.
