The next edition of the World badminton championship will be staged here in August 2026.

The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the current World championships in Paris, in which Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the doubles bronze, their second in the championship.

Thanking the Badminton World Federation (BWF) for bestowing the honour of hosting the Worlds on India, Badminton Association of India (BAI) general secretary Sanjay Mishra said: “We assure that India will uphold and carry forward the same standards of excellence and grandeur that Paris has showcased. We look forward to welcoming the badminton family to Delhi.”

India has won 15 medals in the Worlds and five of them have been by P.V. Sindhu. The double Olympic medallist has won a gold, two silver and two bronze medals in the Worlds. Saina Nehwal also won two bronze.

K. Srikanth claimed silver in 2021, while bronze medals have been clinched by Sai Praneeth, Lakshya Sen and H.S. Prannoy in recent years, after Prakash Padukone had opened the account in 1983 in Copenhagen with a bronze.

Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa had won the women’s doubles bronze in 2011.
