World champion Jaismine Lamboria and former World champion Nikhat Zareen shrugged off the challenge of beginning their campaign late as they won their respective semifinal bouts in the World Boxing Cup Finals at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday.

Jaismine (57kg) defeated former Asian youth gold medallist Ulzhan Sarsenbek 5-0, while Nikhat (51kg) beat 2022 World youth champion Gulsevar Ganieva 5-0.

Six more Indians moved into title bouts. Altogether, 15 home boxers will be seen in action in the finals on Thursday.

A tall southpaw, Jaismine quickly assessed her strong Kazakh opponent, who closed the gap to attack, and employed her long range game with confidence. With her fluent movement around the ring, Jaismine controlled the bout and stole points effortlessly.

Jaismine will meet Taiwan’s Paris Olympics bronze medallist Wu Shih Yi in the final.

Nikhat had a tough start against Uzbekistan’s Gulsevar but managed a 4-1 verdict in the opening round. The experienced Indian, who executed her combinations to score points, convinced all five judges amid trading of punches and a lot of clinching in the last two rounds.
