Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Y. S. Sharmila Reddy, along with several activists and leaders of Srikakulam, staged a protest in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday, opposing the privatisation of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
Expressing solidarity with Y.S. Sharmila, Srikakulam District Congress Committee President Ambati Krishnarao said: “The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant is a symbol of pride for Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, it is a vital source of livelihood for many families in Srikakulam district.”
In a press release, Mr. Ambati Krishnarao announced that the District Congress Committee (DCC) would organise meetings across all constituencies in Srikakulam district to garner support of the people for the continuation of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant as a public sector unit.
Senior Congress leaders Mamidi Satyanarayana, Abotula Venkata Naidu, Chakravarthi Reddy, Botsa Venkata Ramana, KVLS Eswari, Pudi Kirankumar, and others also participated in the protest.
