Firing back at the media, actor and Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism has said the scandals plaguing the film industry are nothing more than “media fabrications.”
In response to questions about the allegations of sexual abuse against actors, Mr. Gopi on Tuesday (August 27, 2024) claimed that the media was “distorting public perception” and that controversies serve as nothing more than sensational “fodder” for their coverage.
The actor-politician, visibly angry, even shoved the media personnel who approached him at Ramanilayam in Thrissur on Tuesday.
“Media are disrupting a major system,” he said. “The court will address the complaints, which are in the form of allegations. Are you the court?” he asked mediapersons.

He made the response a day after Yuva Morcha activists took out a protest against the residence of CPI(M) MLA M. Mukesh in Kollam.
Asked about the emergence of new allegations in the film industry, he reiterated that it is the court’s responsibility to address them. He accused the media of profiting by inciting conflict among people.
“I’m coming from a private visit. You can ask questions about the film industry controversies only when I am at the AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) office,” he said.
He said questions about personal matters should be asked when “one is at his house, and questions about official matters when one is leaving the office.”
