Two persons have been arrested on charges of abusing and preventing a woman Forest Range Officer of Manapparai Range from discharging her duty in the district recently.
Forest Range Officer Mary Lency, along with some field-level department personnel, was conducting an awareness programme at Ponnaniyar Dam four road area against hunting wild animals when Sakthivel and Arokiasamy allegedly abused her and prevented her from discharging her duty on February 22.
The two persons were apparently inebriated at the time. The police said the Forest Range Officer lodged a complaint with the Vaiyampatti police after which Sakthivel and Arokiasamy were arrested on Thursday and sent for remand.
The Vaiyampatti police have registered a case against the two under Sections 296 (uttering obscene words in public place) and 132 (assault or criminal force to prevent public servant from discharging his duty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, said police sources.
