T.N. Assembly pays homage to Pahalgam terror attack victims


Tamil Nadu Assembly pays homage to the 26 victims of the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Wednesday (April 23, 2025) paid homage to the 26 victims of a terror attack that occurred on Tuesday (April 22, 2025) in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking in the Assembly, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the attack that targeted innocent tourists, and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. Pahalgam is a popular tourist destination visited by people from across India and abroad. The attack on innocent civilians is deeply condemnable. A terrorist organisation has claimed responsibility, and such outfits must be dealt with an iron hand, he said.

Helpline centre

He also said that he had ordered the establishment of a special, round-the-clock helpline centre at Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi to assist and communicate with affected people from Tamil Nadu. The Resident Commissioner at Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi has been instructed to coordinate all related efforts. Further, Aftab Rasool, IAS, Additional Collector (Development) of Pudukkottai district, has been directed to reach the Pahalgam regionto carry out coordination efforts.

Mr. Stalin also recalled previous terror attacks, including the 2017 Amarnath Yatra attack that claimed eight lives and the 2019 Pulwama attack, in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed. He reiterated that terrorism has no place on Indian soil.

Condemning the attack and extending condolences to the family members of the deceased persons, Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami urged the State government to extend medical assistance to the injured persons from Tamil Nadu and take steps to bring them back.

MLAs K. Selvaperunthagai of Congress, R. Arul of PMK, Nainar Nagenthran of BJP, J. Mohammed Sha Navas of VCK, V.P. Nagaimaali of CPI (M), T. Ramachandran of CPI, T. Sadhan Thirumalaikumar of MDMK, M.H. Jawahirullah of Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, E.R. Eswaran of KMDK, T. Velmurugan of Tamilaga Valvurimai Katchi, and M . Jagan Moorthy of Puratchi Bharatham also condemned the attack.
