Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has stirred political controversy by alleging that “black magic rituals” have been performed at the Chief Minister’s official residence, Varsha Bungalow in Mumbai.
Speaking in Nashik, Mr. Raut claimed that these alleged rituals are the reason Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has avoided moving into the iconic bungalow, choosing instead to stay at Sagar Bungalow since assuming office.
According to Mr. Raut, Mr. Fadnavis himself has expressed unease about staying at Varsha Bungalow, reportedly saying, “Even if I shift there, I won’t spend the night.” The reluctance of the CM to occupy the official residence has raised questions about the State’s political dynamics and superstitious beliefs.
Mr. Raut went further, alleging that buffalo horns from animals sacrificed at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati had been buried on the bungalow’s premises. “It is said that these horns were buried to curse the premises and prevent any Chief Minister from holding onto power for long. While we do not believe in such superstitions, these whispers among Varsha staff cannot be ignored,” he claimed.
He also questioned the implications of such allegations in a State with a rich history of social reform. “Maharashtra is known for its progressive values and leaders like Mahatma Phule, Prabodhankar Thackeray, and Sant Gadge Baba, who stood against superstition. Are we really allowing such narratives to dominate our politics today?” Mr. Raut remarked.
