A difference of opinion broke out between Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss and his son Anbumani Ramadoss during the party’s executive council meeting at Pattanur in Villupuram district on Saturday (December 28, 2024).

When Mr. Ramadoss announced the name of P. Mukundan, his grandson, for the post of the party’s youth wing president, Mr. Anbumani objected to it, saying that he had joined the party only four months ago.

Dr. Ramadoss, in response, said it was he who had launched the Vanniyar Sangam and the party, and that those who were not interested in continuing in the party were free to leave. He said Mr. Mukundan would help Mr. Anbumani and the party win 50 seats in the 2026 Assembly election. Though he called Mr. Mukundan, son of his elder daughter Gandhimathi, to the dais, the latter did not appear.

Mr. Anbumani’s contention was that Mr. Mukunthan had joined the party only a few months ago and that he did not have enough experience to become the youth wing leader. He said that an experienced hand with talent should be appointed to the post.

He further said he had an office in Panaiyur on the outskirts of Chennai and that party functionaries and cadres could visit him there.

Earlier, the youth wing post was held by M. Tamilkumaran, the son of PMK’s Legislative Party leader G.K. Mani.
