Social activist Rahul Easwar has proposed the formation of a commission for men in Kerala on the lines of Kerala Women’s Commission and Kerala State Youth Commission as a platform for “men who face fabricated harassment cases.”

He said he plans to move the idea in the State Legislative Assembly with the help of MLA Eldhose Kunnapillil, who is allegedly on the “receiving end” of such a case.

Earlier, the Ernakulam Central police booked Mr. Easwar on charge of insulting the modesty of a woman based on a complaint by an actor.

The case was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 79 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and Section 67 of the IT Act.

Earlier, the Kerala High Court, while disposing of Mr. Easwar’s anticipatory bail plea, had directed the police that if any case was registered against him for a non-bailable offence on a complaint by the actor, then he must be given two weeks’ prior notice before any coercive action was taken against him. The actor had accused him of cyber-harassment for initiating action against businessman Boby Chemmanur.
