The Constitution framed by the Drafting Committee led by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar laid the foundation for a country where every individual, irrespective of caste, religion, language and region, is treated equally, said Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) founder and Chidambaram (Tamil Nadu) MP Thol. Thirumavalavan.

The Chidambaram MP attended a programme organised to mark the 13th death anniversary of a revolutionary and poet K.G. Sathyamurthy (Sivasagar), in Vijayawada on Thursday. He also released a Telugu translation of his book ‘Uproot Hindutva’ on the occasion.

Mr. Thirumavalavan said the Constitution guarantees a society that is free from inequalities, and that is why the Hindutva forces see it as an obstacle in the path of creating a ‘Hindu Rashtra’.

“The agenda of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party is to make the country a Hindu Rashtra, where there will be one religion, one culture and one language. Then, they will advocate for one country and one party. The Constitution comes in their way of realising this goal,” the MP said.

He said that it was essential that everyone followed the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity enshrined in the Constitution.

He admired Sathyamurthy as someone who relentlessly fought for the rights of the oppressed.
