The new building, which is located near Gandhi Chowk in the Old City, has been constructed at a cost of ₹2 crore after demolishing the old structure that was constructed under the Nizams.
However, the new building has not been opened for public service. And, the police station continues to function in a congested quarters near Kanaka Circle.
The new building has been constructed with all the basic and required facilities. It has four officers rooms, two lock-ups, seven toilets, including those for officers and the public, and a wireless room, a male staff room and a female staff room and two record rooms, store rooms and computer rooms.
Apart from that, four Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras have been installed and drinking water is provided for the public visiting the police station.
“The building for the Town Police Station will probably be inaugurated by December 23 or 24. We are expecting the Home Minister for the inauguration,“ Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar said.
