Over 1,750 moved to relief camps in Villupuram district, says Forest Minister K. Ponmudy

Over 1,750 persons from Cyclone Fengal affected parts of Villupuram district were moved to 21 relief centres across the district as part of precautionary measures, Minister for Forests K. Ponmudy has said.

Speaking to reporters in Villupuram on Sunday, he said Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was monitoring the situation and had deputed Electricity Minister V. Senthil Balaji and Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar to coordinate the relief and rescue operations.

Mr. Ponmudy said that as many as 11 incidents of wall collapse had been reported in Kottakuppam and Marakkanam. About 51 electric poles and 22 trees were uprooted and arrangements have been made to remove them and restore power supply.

The death of livestock due to the Cyclone stood at five while no human casualties have been reported so far, he added.
