A major tragedy was averted after the tiled-roof of the anganwadi building on Junior Basic School campus at Kandanad, near Udayamperoor, in Ernakulam district of Kerala collapsed on Thursday (December 19, 2024) morning.
No casualties were reported as the accident occurred a few minutes before the children reached the school. The incident happened around 9.30 a.m. The dilapidated structure had been remaining in a dangerous condition for long, according to the nearby residents.
A woman who was working at the anganwadi, who was present at the site, managed to escape unhurt after she heard the sound of the crumbling roof.
A portion of the damaged roof had collapsed earlier and the authorities had filed a complaint with the panchayat authorities, she said.
