Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president D.K. Shivakumar has said the convention planned at Hassan on December 5 will be named Jana Kalyana Samavesha – and he will preside over the programme.
Mr. Shivakumar spoke to the media after reviewing the preparations for the event at Hassan on Monday. A group of people representing Swabhimani Okkuta had extended support to hold the event, considering the welfare programmes launched by the Chief Minister. “I thank them all for their support and I welcome their gesture,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
The Congress party has won three seats in the byelections recently held. The strength of the Congress in the Assembly has gone up by two more seats. “In a democratic set-up the voters play a major role. Their judgement is final, irrespective of the comments of the opposition parties,” he stated.
Further, listing the objectives of the event, Mr. Shivakumar said the party chose Hassan to hold the event as the party felt it was its duty to thank the people of Hassan for electing the party candidate in the last Lok Sabha polls. “Many families in Hassan went through painful developments ahead of Lok Sabha elections. We are holding the event to boost their morale. Besides that we want to prepare the workers for the coming local body elections,” the KPCC president said.
Minister for Cooperation K.N. Rajanna, who is also the Minister in charge of Hassan, Lok Sabha member Shreyas Patel, Housing Board chairman K.M. Shivalinge Gowda, and other leaders of the party were present.
