At least four dead, 24 injured as bus falls into gorge in Uttarakhand

Four people, including a child, died and over 24 got injured after a bus fell into a gorge near Bhimtal town of Uttarakhand on Wednesday (December 25, 2024) morning.

According to officials, prima facie it appears that a Uttarakhand Roadways Bus, on its way from Almora to Haldwani, lost control and fell into a 1,500 feet deep gorge. The passengers, around 30 in number, were thrown off the bus upon impact while some remained stuck inside.

The teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were rushed to the spot and the rescue work started soon after the accident. The injured were pulled out of the gorge with the help of a rope and were taken to Bhimtal community hospital. The critical ones were taken to Sushila Tiwari Medical College in Haldwani.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took stock of the situation over phone and ordered officials to provide all possible help to the injured persons. He also asked the expert team of doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to be sent to the spot for medical help.

“The news of the death of four people in the unfortunate bus accident near Bhimtal is extremely heart-rending. I pray to God that the bereaved families get strength to bear the loss,” he said.
