Karnataka will on Wednesday (February 5, 2025) host a conclave of Higher Education Ministers from seven States, to discuss the draft regulations issued by the University Grants Commission regarding the appointment of vice-chancellors.
Ministers for Higher Education of Karnataka, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala will participate in this conclave.
Karnataka’s Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar claimed that some regional parties in a few States, though opposed to the new UGC norms, are in alliance with NDA and are not in a position to express their opposition openly.
However, he pointed out that Janata Dal (United), Telugu Desam Party and Lok Janshakti Pary (Ram Vilas Paswan), who are in alliance with NDA, have issued statements expressing their dissatisfaction. He also said the Union Minister for Higher Education will not take part in the conclave owing to elections in the national capital.
