258 kg of banned gutkha seized, four held

The police seized 258 kg of gutkha from two cars intercepted after a chase near the Four Roads junction in Panruti near here.

Following a tip-off, a team were conducting vehicle checks at the Four Roads junction on Sunday evening when they tried to stop two cars, but they sped away. After a brief chase, police managed to intercept the vehicles some distance away on the stretch.

The police checked the vehicles and seized 258 kg of gutkha, which was packed in gunny bags. The team arrested Abdul Rashid, 46 of Nellikuppam, Ramesh, 24, Harish, 26 and Shankar Lal, 27 of Rajasthan. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
