After the Durga Puja festival concluded on Friday (October 3, 2025), the leadership of both Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party stepped up their political activity with an eye on next year’s Assembly polls.

While the BJP leadership was huddled in a meeting with newly appointed election observers in Kolkata, the Trinamool Congress has announced an outreach of Vijaya Sammilani in all blocks across the State.

On instructions of Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee the party has started preparations for Vijaya Sammilani in every block of West Bengal. Vijaya Sammilani will start from Sunday (October 5). The Durga Puja carnival at Kolkata’s Red Road which will be presided by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will also be held on October 5.

Vijaya Sammilani or Bijoya Sammilini are occasions to exchange the greetings of Bijoya/ Vijay Dashami and serve as an important opportunity to connect with the people. The Trinamool Congress leadership has also prepared about 50 speakers who will speak at the gatherings.

Even during the Durga Puja festival, Mr. Banerjee visited several Durga Puja pandals and connected with the people. The Durga Puja festival, with about 40,000 community pujas, each of which received ₹1.10 lakh from the State government, was an important opportunity for the ruling party to reach out to the electorate.

On the other hand, two election observers of the BJP, Union Minister for Environment Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav and former Tripura Chief Minister and BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb, arrived in Kolkata. Mr. Yadav was appointed as the election observer for West Bengal Mr. Deb co-observer on September 25. This is their first visit after getting responsibility of Bengal for the election.

Their visit comes just a day after the Bijoya Dashami, signaling the party’s intent to accelerate its preparations. The two election observers along with BJP leaders of West Bengal will hold a series of meetings in the next two days.

Former West Bengal BJP president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said that the election observers will work together with BJP leaders of West Bengal to defeat Trinamool Congress in the next elections. Elections in West Bengal are scheduled in 2026.
