A tiger died after getting caught in a snare at a plantation in Kodagu district, triggering concern among forest authorities.

The incident occurred at Srimangala, near the Nagarahole forest. Following the incident, Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment Eshwar Khandre chaired an emergency meeting in Belagavi on Tuesday to review the situation. He spoke to forest officials in Mysuru district and issued instructions.

In the wake of the tiger death, Mr. Khandre directed forest officials to create awareness among the people living along forest fringes and educate them on the legal consequences of wildlife deaths caused by such snares.

The Minister instructed officials to form teams across all forest ranges and conduct regular searches for illegal traps along forest boundaries. He further directed that strict legal action be initiated against those responsible for the tiger’s death.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force Meenakshi Negi, Chief Wildlife Warden P.C. Ray, Principal Secretary Manoj Kumar, and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
