A24 has released the first trailer for The Death of Robin Hood, revealing a darker reimagining of the legendary outlaw with Hugh Jackman portraying a man haunted by years of violence and bloodshed.

Written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, the film departs sharply from traditional heroic portrayals of Robin Hood. In the trailer, Jackman’s version is introduced as a battle-worn figure whose past is defined by crime and murder rather than mythic nobility. Gravely injured after a brutal encounter, Robin survives only through the intervention of a mysterious woman played by Jodie Comer, who forces him to confront the weight of his actions.

Sarnoski, who previously directed Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, has described his take on the character as intentionally unsettling — a man who has lived long enough to witness his own violent history transformed into folklore. The film explores the tension between the legend of Robin Hood and the reality of who he once was.

The cast also includes Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, Noah Jupe and Elijah Ungvary. Jackman serves as a producer alongside Alexander Black, Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett. Production took place in Northern Ireland.

Jackman recently appeared in Song Sung Blue opposite Kate Hudson and will next be seen in The Sheep Detectives.

The Death of Robin Hood is scheduled to release in theaters later this year.
