Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Nadendla Manohar chairing a review meeting in Bhimavaram, West Godavari district on Tuesday.

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Nadendla Manohar has announced that the State government was preparing to supply tarpaulins at a 50% subsidy through the Food Corporation of India (FCI).

Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, after a review meeting with the officials of West Godavari and Eluru districts, Mr. Manohar claimed that the FCI will be roped in to contribute ₹50 crore towards supplying the tarpaulins to the farmers at 50% subsidy. The tarpaulins are used to protect the harvest, particularly during sudden rains. 

At a review meeting with the officials, Mr. Manohar has assured to meet the requirement of 30 lakh gunny bags to speed up the paddy procurement drive in West Godavari district. 

In the Godavari region, Mr. Manohar has consented to procure an additional three lakh metric tonnes of paddy in the Rabi season as against the previous target to procure paddy damaged during the recent rains. West Godavari District Joint Collector T. Rahul Kumar Reddy has said that 4.88 lakh metric tonnes has been procured in the district as against the target of six lakh metric tonnes. Eluru District Joint Collector P. Dathri said that ₹487 crore have been paid to the farmers towards procurement of 2.20 lakh metric tonnes in the Rabi season. 

The Minister also guaranteed the farmers that they would be paid within 24 hours of procurement. He also assured them that damaged paddy with a maximum of 24% moisture level will also be procured.

The rice millers have been directed to extend support to meet the target of procurement. Public representatives, West Godavari District Rice Millers Association President Samanthapudi Sriramaraju and officials of revenue and civil supplies departments were present.
