‘The biggest piece of rubbish…’: Aaron Finch on Virat Kohli’s T20I future talks | Cricket News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Former Australian captain Aaron Finch has strongly rebutted critics questioning the place of Indian batter Virat Kohli in the Men in Blue’s T20I setup, labeling the speculation as “the biggest rubbish” he has ever heard.
As the ICC T20 World Cup approaches and the excitement around the Indian Premier League (IPL) intensifies, discussions regarding Virat’s effectiveness in T20 cricket have sparked mixed opinions. While some fans and experts advocate for Virat’s inclusion based on his stellar T20I record and vast experience, others have raised concerns about his relatively conservative approach in a format known for aggressive batting.

Speaking on ESPN’s program, Finch expressed his bewilderment at the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Virat’s spot in the team. “I cannot understand that whenever an ICC event, irrespective of the format, is coming, every time people talk about Virat Kohli and whether he is under pressure for his spot. This is the biggest piece of rubbish I have ever heard. He is the greatest white ball player I have ever seen,” stated Finch.

Refuting the notion that strike rates define a player’s worth in T20 cricket, Finch emphasized Virat’s unparalleled ability to deliver consistent performances under pressure. “It does not matter if he strikes at 140 and other guys strike at 160, when you pick up a team, you pick up a guy who gets the job done day in and day out for his team during big games. It is ludicrous that we keep having this conversation,” he added.
Virat’s emphatic response to critics came during his recent IPL encounter against Punjab Kings, where he silenced detractors with a spectacular innings of 77 runs off 49 balls, showcasing his versatility and adaptability in challenging conditions.
Acknowledging the scrutiny surrounding his spot, Virat affirmed his confidence in his T20 abilities during the post-match presentation. “I know my name is often used to just promote the T20 game across the world when it comes to T20 cricket these days but still got it I guess,” he remarked.
