Pakistan players yet to get visas for Kho Kho WC

With less than two weeks to go for the start of the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup in India, there is uncertainty over Pakistan’s participation in the tournament. Pakistan is scheduled to play the opening game against host India in the men’s section at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on January 13, but clearance from the Indian government is needed for Pakistan’s players to get their visas for travel. Pakistan is fielding teams in both the men’s and women’s sections of the tournament, which will run till January 19.

“We have already made all the arrangements. My understanding is that Pakistan is under consideration. I will be very hopeful that the Indian government will permit Pakistan to come and participate. The players have applied for visas. It is awaiting clearance from the government,” Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) president Sudhanshu Mittal told reporters here on Friday.

The trophies that will be awarded to the winners of the men’s and women’s sections were unveiled on Friday. KKFI also presented the official mascots — Tejas and Tara — for the event.

The tournament will be televised on Star Sports and Doordarshan. Hotstar is the OTT broadcast partner.

“We are very grateful to all our stakeholders who will be supporting the inaugural edition of the Kho Kho World Cup,” Mittal said.
