Saurabh Chaudhary announced his return to top form by shooting 591 out of 600 in men’s air rifle in the 67th National shooting championships at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Thursday.
The 22-year-old Saurabh, who represents Railways, and has been languishing away from the national squad for quite some time after the Tokyo Olympics, shot a series of 99, 97, 99, 99, 98 and 99, in putting up the impressive score in qualification.
The world record in men’s air pistol stands at 594, shot by Jin Jongoh of Korea, in the Changwon World Cup in 2009.
The finals of the men’s air pistol, junior and youth events are scheduled for January 5. The high number of entries have been forcing the organisers to have nearly week-long qualification competition before the finals in many of the events.
