Mohun Bagan Super Giant crushed the challenge of the visiting Hyderabad FC for a 3-0 win in an ISL match at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Thursday.
Things went downhill for Hyderabad when defender Stefan Sapic scored an own goal early before Tom Aldred and Jason Cummings a goal each to complete the rout.
The win helped Mohun Bagan take its tally to 32 points from 14 matches to extend the lead over the second-placed Bengaluru FC (27 points from 13 matches) and consolidate its position on top of the standings.
Hyderebad suffered its 10th loss to remain in 12th spot with eight points from 14 matches.
Mohun Bagan showed its superiority from the start and found the break early in the ninth minute against an overtly defensive Hyderabad. An attempted clearance by the Hyderabad goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh hit his own defender Stefan Sapic and resulted in an own goal.
After Mohun Bagan striker Jamie Maclaren saw his effort coming off the framework in the 17th minute, Aldred rose to nod home a cross from Liston Colaco in the 41st minute and doubled the home team’s lead. Mohun Bagan virtually put the match beyond Hyderabad’s reach early in the second half when Cummings scored the third off a spectacular effort in the 51st minute.
The result: Mohun Bagan SG 3 (Sepic 9-og, Aldred 41, Cummings 51) bt Hyderabad FC 0.
