Shubman Gill is likely to be available for Punjab’s Vijay Hazare Trophy group league fixture against Sikkim and Goa in the first week of January.
While there were speculations that India’s Test and ODI skipper could link up with the squad here for the third and fourth group league games, sources in the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) have confirmed to The Hindu that Gill has assured them of his availability for the two games on January 3 and 6.
“He will join the team in Jaipur around January 1 for those two games. While he is interested in playing the final group league fixture against Mumbai as well, it will all depend on the BCCI’s scheduling for the camps ahead of the home series against New Zealand,” the source said.
India will be squaring off against New Zealand from January 11, and the team is likely to hold a preparatory camp a couple of days before the series starts. So, in that case, Gill might have to give the game against Mumbai a miss.
Gill, who was recently dropped from the T20 World Cup squad, has been out of action for a while due to an impact injury to his right foot. Last month, he suffered a neck injury during the Test series against South Africa.
