The Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), on Wednesday, imposed a two-season ban (up to the 2027-28 season) and a ₹3.6 crore ($400,729) fine on ISL champion Mohun Bagan Super Giant for refusing to travel for the game against Sepahan SC.

Bagan didn’t travel to Iran for its AFC Champions League Two (ACL 2) group-stage match on September 30, citing the unavailability of visas for some of its foreign players.

It was the second such withdrawal in a row after it had refused to travel to Iran for its group stage match against Tractor Sports Club in ACL 2 last season. Bagan was let off then, considering it a force majeure.

However, the refusal to travel to Iran in the 2025-26 season did not go down well with the AFC.
