Kim Soo Hyun slammed for his past controversial remarks amid Kim Sae Ron’s aunt’s claims: ‘Beneath all those masks…’

The late actress Kim Sae Ron’s aunt recently appeared on the controversial YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute, hosted by former media reporter Kim Se Ui (Kim Say), where she accused actor Kim Soo Hyun and ultimately blamed him for Sae Ron’s suicide.

In response, the actor’s management company, Gold Medalist, which also represented Sae Ron from 2019 to 2024, issued a statement condemning the malicious accusations. However, amid the controversy, past comments made by the actor about marrying a decades younger woman have sparked outrage among his fans.

Kim Soo Hyun’s past remarks about marrying younger women resurface

In light of the recent allegations surrounding Kim Sae Ron, an old interview with the Queen of Tears actor has resurfaced, where he discussed his views on marriage.

During a showcase for Secretly, Greatly on April 30, 2013, the actor was asked about his future plans, to which he explained, “When I was 24, I made a life plan, thinking about how I would live, and I decided I would get married between the ages of 36 and 37. But now, I don’t think I’ll be able to stick to that plan.”

However, it was the second part of his answer that sparked controversy. He continued, “It looks like my marriage timeline has been pushed back a bit. I think I might be able to get married around 41. I’ll marry a 21-year-old when I’m 41.”

In response, MC Kim Tae Jin said, “Kindergarteners all over the country are excited to hear this story.”

Internet slams Kim Soo Hyun’s past remarks

The resurfaced comments from Kim Soo Hyun sparked widespread disgust among netizens, with many expressing their discomfort upon revisiting the interview in light of the recent allegations. Numerous people took to social media to emphasize how the remarks seemed inappropriate and unsettling given the current context.

“Kim Soohyun has always been a weirdo… Now watch his fans try to sweep this under the rug and victim blame.” One user wrote on X.

A second user wrote, “And his fans hated me for wondering why she did it on his birthday. Girl, I knew it from the very start that Kim Soohyun was somewhat involved in this mess.”

“Kim Soohyun should’ve been guillotined the moment he said he wanted to marry a 20-year-old when he turned 40, but the Korean industry and society love to coddle grown men and giggle at the nasty shit they say, so,” a third user wrote.

“And not just Kim Soohyun; everyone around him for the past 10 years definitely knew he was in a relationship with a child for six entire years… Looking at his close circle very, very differently,” added another user.

One user launched scathing accusations against the actor, writing, “Kim Soohyun, you are a murderer; you killed her.”

What did Kim Sae Ron’s aunt claim?

According to Kim Sae Ron’s aunt, the two began dating in 2015, when Kim Sae Ron was 15 and Kim Soo Hyun was 27. Their six-year relationship reportedly ended in 2022 following Kim Sae Ron’s drunk driving incident.

In 2019, Kim Sae Ron left YG Entertainment to join Kim Soo Hyun’s management company, GOLD MEDALIST. Her aunt claimed that she contributed to the company’s establishment by providing free labor, including directing talent and offering acting lessons to budding artists.

She further claimed that during Kim Sae Ron’s drunk driving incident, GOLD MEDALIST intervened, covering ₩700 million KRW (about $483,000 USD) in damages, which the actress was not required to repay.

However, when the Bloodhounds actress’ contract with GOLD MEDALIST ended, she was unexpectedly asked to repay the ₩700 million in 2024. She tried reaching out to the My Love from the Star actor, but he ignored her calls.

In an attempt to get his attention, she posted a photo of them together on Instagram. However, Kim Soo Hyun and GOLD MEDALIST issued a statement that cast her in a negative light, continuing to disregard her attempts to reconnect.

On February 16, 2025, Kim Sae Ron was found dead by a friend at her residence in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong District, Seoul. She was 24 years old. Following an investigation, authorities confirmed the cause of death as suicide the next day.
