Here is some good news for coffee lovers. Would you believe if we say that drinking coffee can increase your lifespan by almost 2 years?
Well, a new research suggests that drinking coffee regularly may add an average of 1.8 years of healthy life. The findings of the study have been published in the journalAgeing Research Reviews.
“Coffee intake attenuates the major causes of mortality, dampening cardiovascular-, cerebrovascular-, cancer- and respiratory diseases-associated mortality, as well as some of the major causes of functional deterioration in the elderly such as loss of memory, depression and frailty,” the researchers have said.
“The amplitude of the benefit seems discrete (17 % reduction) but nonetheless corresponds to an average increase in healthspan of 1.8 years of lifetime,” they have added.
The researchers found that coffee and its main components (caffeine, chlorogenic acids) control stress adaptation and the regular intake of coffee preserves the main biological mechanisms of aging.
So, how much coffee is recommended per day?
Dr Sudhir Kumar, also known as hyderabaddoctor on X, has shared an useful insight on this study.
In a post on X, Dr Sudhir writes: American Academy of Pediatrics recommend the following daily limits on caffeine:
Ages 4 – 6: 45 mgs (about a half cup of coffee)
Ages 7 – 9: 62.5 mgs
Ages 10 – 12: 85 mgs
Adolescents: 85 – 100 mgs
In addition to coffee, caffeine is present in tea, caffeinated soda, hot chocolate, and chocolate. It is also added to a variety of sports and energy drinks. So, when calculating the total coffee intake, keep in mind these other sources of caffeine too.
Coffee is a beloved beverage enjoyed worldwide, offering more than just a morning energy boost. Rich in antioxidants and nutrients like magnesium and potassium, it supports overall health. Regular consumption is linked to improved brain function, enhancing focus, alertness, and memory, thanks to its caffeine content.
Additionally, coffee may reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Type 2 diabetes. Its antioxidants combat inflammation and protect cells from damage. Moderate coffee intake is also associated with a healthier heart and longer lifespan. When consumed mindfully, coffee is a delicious and beneficial addition to a balanced lifestyle.
