Bengaluru airport on high alert amid Mpox outbreak: Tests and 21-day quarantine for flyers – Times of India
Monkeypox testing kiosks have been set up at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. International passengers, especially those arriving from African countries, will undergo screening for the monkeypox virus and if found positive would have to undergo 21 day mandatory quarantine and isolation. The rules are similar to those implemented during COVID pandemic.
“KIA is fully prepared and compliant with all health and safety protocols issued by relevant authorities in light of the global Mpox situation. All international passengers arriving at the airport are being thoroughly checked for elevated temperatures as part of the screening process,” a spokesperson for the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) told the media.Meanwhile, one case of monkeypox has been identified in India. The 26 year old man from Haryana was admitted to LNJP hospital after showing symptoms. His health condition is currently stable, reports have said. The identified case in India is not the notorious Clade 1b strain of monkeypox virus that is said to be the virulent form of the virus. The clade 1b variant has been identified in countries where monkeypox was not seen earlier.
On August 14, the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced monkeypox to be a public health emergency.
Only one of monkeypox has been identified in India so far. Meanwhile, another suspected case of monkeypox was identified at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Saturday. According to the details, a traveller who arrived on a PIA flight from Jeddah had symptoms that resembled monkeypox.
Monkeypox is a viral disease caused by the monkeypox virus. Initially identified in primates, it can be transmitted to humans through direct contact with infected animals or through person-to-person contact with bodily fluids, respiratory droplets, or contaminated materials.

Symptoms of monkeypox include fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes. The disease typically resolves on its own within a few weeks, but severe cases can occur. Public health measures focus on isolation, infection control, and monitoring for outbreaks.
