Issue of defamation

The suggestion by a sitting judge, that it is time for decriminalising slur to stem the proliferation of defamation suits, needs to be heeded by all (Front page, September 23). With political practices and parliamentary decorum plumbing ever new lows, it has become commonplace to convert seemingly public interest litigation to ‘publicity interested litigation’. The tendency to score brownie points or settle political fights has, however, found a playfield in courts, stretching the sacred tenets of the law to absurd lengths.

Neighbours and matches

The Indian skipper’s comment that India-Pakistan is not a rivalry anymore in cricket borders on a lack of professional humility (‘Sport’ page, September 23). Despite India’s dominance over Pakistan, the spirit in which the matches have been played in Dubai and the handshake row begs the question whether these matches should be played in the first place.

Portal and a glitch

There is a technical issue with the official High Security Registration Plate booking portal, which is blocking citizens in Telangana from completing the mandatory booking process. I have been trying to book/register the plate for my vehicle for over two months, but the issue persists. Upon entering my vehicle’s registration number, the portal displays the error message, “Please input Correct Registration Number of Telangana State.” This is not a user error, as I have verified the details against my vehicle’s Registration Certificate.
