Star shows, public events

The stampede in Karur, Tamil Nadu is a grim reminder of how poor crowd management can turn into disaster. The organisers and officials must be held accountable after a thorough and fair probe.

Announcements of compensation are not enough. Going forward, events that will draw large crowds must follow strict crowd-control rules, emergency planning and medical preparedness.

Charu Sharma,

Hoshiarpur, Punjab

From stadiums to public gatherings, innocent lives have been repeatedly lost. What is urgently needed is a coherent, nationwide policy that is rooted in emergency preparedness, trained local administration, scientific crowd control, and public awareness.

Mohammad Asad,

SIR, wrong polling station

I am writing to express my sadness over the final SIR list. My village is Telarh and my polling station should be here, like it is for fellow villagers. But due to the Election Commission of India’s error, my polling station is now Madhya Vidyalay Agiaon Bazar Baya Bhag – 345, which is not even in my panchayat. I have complained about this several times and have filled Form 8 twice to transfer my polling station to my village, Prathmik Vidalay Telarh Paschim Bhag – 366. The reply every time is that my form is “under process”. The BLO never visited me. I even filled the SIR form online and uploaded the required documents. My name is in the draft list but not under my village’s polling station.

Md Sabir Hussain,

Arrah, Bihar
