SIR work

I strongly feel that carrying out the job of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls can be assigned to unemployed graduates and postgraduates across Tamil Nadu (Tamil Nadu, “SIR work preventing completion of syllabus for half-yearly exam: teachers”, November 19). This is germane for other States too. Those who do the work can be given reasonable remuneration and also a certificate which will enhance their job prospects. The Centre and the State government concerned can work out the financial implication of this plan. The sustained creation of jobs is vital to make the nation a ‘developed’ one.

Writing today

Writers face challenges in penning their views, as the principle of free expression, which is a fundamental right, is often constrained by political pressures and social backlash. This environment of intolerance creates a chilling effect, forcing writers to choose “self-censoring” to avoid personal risks (Open Page, November 16). The rise of digital media has amplified the risk of online abuse. Women journalists often face gendered online threats. The challenge for modern-day writers lies in navigating a complex landscape.
