Kate continues recovery as Meghan speaks out about ‘toxic’ social media

King Charles holds face-to-face audience with Chancellor before Budget

The Princess of Wales is continuing her recovery from abdominal surgery away from the public eye.

Kate Middleton’s health concerns come as Meghan Markle spoke out about the “toxicity” of social media on Friday.

Meghan Markle recalled the “cruel” comments aimed at her while she was pregnant with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet as she led a keynote speech on International Women’s Day titled Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead On And Off The Screen.

Meanwhile, Kate’s uncle Gary Goldsmith shed further light on the ongoing rift between Prince William and his brother Prince Harry in the Celebrity Big Brother house. The businessman told fellow contestants on Wednesday: “He’s had an olive branch open every time for Harry to come back and be part of the gang.”

The comments come as the Prince of Wales visited the Oval cricket ground, home of Surrey County Cricket Club, to celebrate the achievements of Notpla’s seaweed-based eco-packaging, which aims to reduce waste.

The exact details of his wife’s condition have not been revealed as rumours gain traction online – but the Palace said previously it was not cancer-related, and that Kate wished her personal medical information to remain private.

Penny Mordaunt is selling viral dress she wore to King’s coronation: ‘I can never wear it again’

For the occasion, Mordaunt wore a show-stealing teal caped gown, embroidered with a fern motif in a nod to the privy council, designed by luxury ready-to-wear brand Safiyaa. The teal colour, called “Poseidon”, is a reference to her Portsmouth constituency.

The look went viral on social media with royal fans admiring her ensemble. “Who had ‘Penny Mordaunt overshadowing everything’ on their bingo card?” wrote one person on X/Twitter at the time.

Kate Middleton’s uncle accuses Prince Harry of throwing royal family ‘under the bus’

Kate Middleton’s uncle has accused Prince Harry of throwing the royal family “under the bus” and said claims of racism against his niece were “bull****.”

Accusing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex of “reinventing history”, Gary Goldsmith said: “My family is not racist and for Kate to be portrayed as that is just so far removed from the truth, it’s ridiculous.”

The publication of Harry’s memoir Spare caused a wave of damaging global headlines for the royal family last year as the duke revealed intimate details of his relationships with his father King Charles and brother Prince William.

Duchess of Edinburgh says Edward ‘is still my best friend’ in surprise tribute

The Duchess of Edinburgh has surprised her husband with a tearful tribute ahead of his 60th birthday, saying he is “the best of fathers, the most loving of husbands and he is still my best friend” and “I am so proud of the man he is”.

Sophie took to the stage at the end of the Community Sport and Recreation Awards, in Leeds, to make a speech praising her husband ahead of his landmark birthday on Sunday.

They both wiped away tears after she described how, like his father, the late Duke of Edinburgh, “my husband never seeks compliments for himself”.

She said: “Which is why I am grateful for this chance to able to publicly celebrate and compliment him.”

Sophie said Edward was “so happy and humbled” when the late Queen made him a Knight of the Garter in 2006, and “equally delighted and moved” when the new King – “who we are both incredibly proud to support” – made him Duke of Edinburgh.

She told the audience on Friday: “Both he deserves in equal measure, and I am so proud of the man he is.

“He is the best of fathers, the most loving of husbands and he is still my best friend.”

After the couple embraced, the duke was further surprised with a birthday cake, which he cut after the guests at the awards lunch, at Headingley Stadium, sang Happy Birthday and cheered.

Earlier, Edward had joked that he did not need to be reminded how old he was, as he was presented with a rugby shirt to mark his forthcoming birthday.

Gary Goldsmith: The ups and downs of Kate Middleton’s playboy uncle entering Celebrity Big Brother

It’s been an exhausting 12 months for “The Firm”, with everything from major health shocks such as King Charles’s cancer diagnosis to severe embarrassment caused by Prince Andrew’s much-publicised friendship with late paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

So, pictures of Gary Goldsmith, who is the brother of Kate’s mother Carole Middleton, picking out fancy suits in Soho ahead of Monday night’s launch of CBB on ITV will only induce shudders from those in Buckingham Palace who fear he will create more unwanted headlines.

Arguably the relaunched show’s most controversial housemate, the 58-year-old has already come under strict orders from the family, with his sister “reading the riot” act over fears he will share secrets live on television.

Duchess of Sussex calls for more inclusive environments

The Duchess of Sussex has called for more inclusive environments where “people feel as if they have a seat at the table”.

Speaking in a keynote speech marking International Women’s Day, Meghan Markle said: “The key thing that I think needs to be focused on in terms of equity is it’s not a zero-sum game, just because someone else has the same advantage that you do doesn’t mean that you’re losing anything, and actually create an environment that is so inclusive where people feel as if they have a seat at the table – as they should.”

During the speech on Friday titled Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead On And Off The Screen, Meghan also told of when she wrote to Procter & Gamble aged 11 and got an advert changed from saying dish-washing liquid was for women to saying it was for people all over America.

The 42-year-old said: “It’s funny to look back at it now as it was before social media where you had a reach that was so much greater, it was just an 11-year-old with a pen and paper but goes to show if you know there is something wrong and you’re using your voice to advocate for what is right, that really land and resonate with people.”

Fellow speaker US actress Brooke Shields joked: “This is one of the ways we’re different, when I was 11 I was playing a prostitute,” recalling her starring role in 1978 film Pretty Baby.
