Heavy rain and subsequent flash floods in rivers have created panic and fear of landslides in the upland regions of Kozhikode. The district was under an orange alert on Tuesday (August 5) and continues to be so on Wednesday (August 6). However, non-stop heavy rain lashed the upland region throughout the afternoon, especially at Kavilumpara, Maruthonkara, and Vanimal.

Flash floods occurred in Kammayi and Narippara after the Vanimal river overflowed its banks. The water level has also risen in the Iruvazhinji river. Murky water flowing through the Vanimal river has raised suspicion of a landslide within the forest.

Once a bustling spot for visitors from neighbouring districts, Kozhikode beach now lies nearly deserted due to the turbulent sea, leaving vendors hardest hit.

Meanwhile, a young man who fell into the Vanimal river in Narippatta had a miraculous escape from drowning after local people helped him ashore. At the same time, the search is still on for the boy who fell into the waterfalls at Pathankayam on Sunday (August 3).

In coastal Kozhikode, the rain has been non-stop but moderate. Though the sea remains turbulent, no untoward incidents have been reported.
