A gun misfire occurred at the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on Monday (July 14, 2025), sparking panic in the high-security zone. No one was injured in the accident.

Official sources said the accidental discharge occurred inside the temple’s bell of arms when a grade sub-inspector was supposedly cleaning his weapon during the morning duty changeover. The bullet hit the floor as the weapon was pointed downward.

The City Police have launched an internal inquiry to determine how the misfire occurred and to ensure that safety protocols are strictly followed. It is suspected that the weapon may have been loaded during the earlier shift.

While the sound of the gunshot caused temporary panic among the personnel nearby, the situation was brought under control quickly.

Normalcy was soon restored without any disruption to temple activities, sources said.
