“There is a story in every frame,” says S Prashanth. The Bengaluru-based photographer is exhibiting images of animals and birds he has seen up close in the wild. The show titled, A Walk Through the Wild: Captured In Time, is a collection of sightings over the past 14 years.
Brilliantly-plumed birds caught mid-flight, big cats in all their regal glory, foliage of different hues complementing the feathered and furred alike — Prashanth’s lens has captured them all. Over 30 photographs on canvas are on display at the show.
The photographer recalls short treks in childhood when he would accompany his uncles and marvel at the wonders in nature. “We would spot deer and different birds and though that sense of wonder stayed long after each trip, I began to realise that details of these experiences began to blur. That is when I began taking photographs in an attempt to document each expedition.”
This dedication to visually record his encounters in the wild began in his early teens and by the time Prashanth was in his mid-twenties, documenting wildlife had become more than a hobby. “Every time I returned from one of my trips, family and friends would be eager to see what I had shot,” says the self-taught photographer and wildlife enthusiast.

He adds, “That is one of the reasons I wanted to hold this exhibition — for the benefit of those who have not had the chance to experience these beauties first hand.”
Another reason was to showcase the natural wealth of the State, says Prashanth. Each photograph at the exhibition is accompanied by the name of the reserve or forest area it was captured in.
“Animals across the globe are same. There might be differences in size or colour, but the species are the same. I believe nature lovers should explore what is accessible right here instead of wishing they could go on a desert safari or visit Masai Mara.”
“I am not undermining wildlife elsewhere; I just want to say there is so much to see and appreciate in India itself. We belong to nature and at the end of the day, that is where we will go.”

“Every photo has a story,” he says, recalling how he stood patiently for over two hours in the wild, waiting for a leopard to wake up. The result is A Stretch, A Stare, a moment of feline grace in the wild. In A Gentle Journey, Prashanth says an elephant calf had been attacked by a crocodile and rescued by his mother. The image shows a subdued child walking alongside his mother, instead of gambolling ahead.
“Out in the wild, you should be able to understand animal nature is a lot like our own. Hunger, thirst, tiredness, playfulness are all there. But one has to be patient if you want to capture the right moment.”
An engineer by profession, Prashanth spends his spare time sharing his knowledge with budding photographers and nature lovers. “When I was starting out, information was not freely available or accessible. We would read up, go to the library and research. I am happy if I can pass on what I have learnt to anyone who might be interested.”
A Walk Through The Wild will be on display at Sublime Galleria, Bengaluru till November 30, 2025.
