The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards 2025 nominations were unveiled online on Wednesday, with Wicked, the blockbuster prequel to The Wizard of Oz, emerging as the frontrunner with five nominations. The SAG Awards, often seen as a bellwether for the Oscars, recognize outstanding performances in film and television and will announce winners on February 23 in a live-streamed ceremony on Netflix.
Wicked’s nominations include Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and individual nods for Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Jonathan Bailey. Close behind is the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, which garnered four nominations, including Best Movie Cast and a lead actor nod for Timothée Chalamet.
Other films contending for Best Movie Cast are Emilia Pérez, Conclave, and Anora. Demi Moore, fresh off her Golden Globe win for The Substance, secured a nomination for Best Female Actor in a Leading Role alongside Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl), Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Pérez), and Mikey Madison (Anora). Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Timothée Chalamet, and Ralph Fiennes (Conclave) are among the nominees for Best Male Actor in a Leading Role.
On the television side, Shogun dominated with five nominations, including Best Drama Ensemble. It faces competition from Bridgerton, The Diplomat, The Day of the Jackal, and Slow Horses. Comedy categories saw strong showings from The Bear and Abbott Elementary.
While the nominees showcase a diverse slate of talent, the announcement was overshadowed by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, which forced the cancellation of a planned live event. Organizers opted for an online announcement to prioritize safety.
