Diljit Dosanjh faces backlash over his Gurdwara visit amid photography ban, netizens say, ‘Rules cannot be bent just because he is a celebrity’ – Times of India

Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh has created a buzz, but this time over controversy as he recently visited Delhi’s Bangla Sahib Gurdwara in preparation for his concert scheduled to be held on Saturday. Although there is a strict restriction on photography within the precincts of the gurdwara, Diljit arrived with his camera and video team. That caused him much flak over the social network.
He paid respect at the holy site ahead of his much-awaited ‘Dil-luminati’ concert. His team shared a professionally edited video of his visit on Instagram, but that soon earned him flak for violating the photography ban. Many netizens felt frustrated at the fact that “rules cannot be bent just because he is a celebrity.” They targeted the gurdwara management as hypocritical for tolerating such behavior among celebrities but condemning ordinary worshippers for doing the same. Another comment read, “If rules are so strict in gurdwara, how’s he being recorded. I too is big fan of Diljit but we had faced a lot of misbehaviour whenever we visit Bangla sahib. Not even allowed to sit alone, capturing is another thing but I’m ok with it…but they are so strict that treat non Sikhs like anything. So rules should be rules equal to all ..if capturing isn’t allowed, it should completely be not allowed.”

With all the media attention, Diljit recently even performed for a giant crowd at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, and the packed audience was thoroughly entertained by his hits and peppy bhangra moves. The concert went on well, and videos and pictures of the event also hit social media within a few hours.
However, many fans were left fuming in the packed venue since the concert did not start on time. Frustrated by the heat, fans waited impatiently for the event to start. The stage’s lights were simply left off, but there was no indication that the performance had begun. Originally scheduled to start at 7 PM, the concert began at approximately 7.50 PM, nearly an hour late. Before the concert, people lined up in long queues outside the stadium, which ran for many kilometres in Delhi.
The singer will once again take the stage as he performs for several shows in India. These events include shows in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.
