Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie reach divorce settlement after eight years

After eight years of legal battles, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have reached a settlement in their divorce according to reports from People. The agreement, finalised on December 30, marks the end of a contentious chapter for the former couple, who had been navigating disputes over custody and shared assets since Jolie filed for divorce in 2016.

Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, confirmed the news, stating, “Angelina has focused on finding peace and healing for her family. While this is just one part of a long process, she is relieved that this chapter is over.” Both parties have agreed to participate in mediation as an alternative resolution method.

The high-profile split began after an alleged altercation during a private flight, where Jolie accused Pitt of abusive behavior toward her and their six children. Pitt was investigated but not charged, and both agreed to handle subsequent proceedings privately to protect their children’s privacy.

While custody disputes largely subsided as most of their children — Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox — have reached adulthood, the couple continued to spar over Château Miraval, their shared French estate and winery. This separate legal battle has seen wins on both sides, with Jolie seeking disclosure of documents and Pitt defending his claim of a prior agreement regarding the property.

Despite their differences, Jolie has refrained from publicly criticising Pitt, with sources noting her efforts to focus on moving forward. For his part, Pitt has been in a relationship with jewelry executive Ines de Ramon since 2022.
