The highly anticipated action-thriller ‘Baby John’, starring Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi, is just a day away from its highly awaited Christmas release. The film, set to hit cinemas on December 25, is expected to perform well at the box office, and may just get an added boost as it coincides with the holiday season.
According to a report by Sacnilk, ‘Baby John’ has sold over 16,100 tickets for its Hindi 2D version, contributing to an advance booking total of nearly Rs 50 lakh for Day 1. However, taking into account blocked seats, the film’s Day 1 collections have already seemed to touch the Rs 1 crore mark.
The film has seen strong pre-release traction in regions such as Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, and Kolkata. These numbers are expected to rise further as the release date approaches. However, it remains to be seen whether the film can sustain momentum amidst fierce competition from Allu Arjun‘s blockbuster ‘Pushpa 2’, which continues to dominate the box office in Hindi-speaking regions.
‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, which has been a massive success, entered its third week at the box office. The film has amassed Rs 679 crore in its Hindi version alone with its overall total set to touch the Rs 1500 crore mark. The Allu Arjun starrer continues to draw large crowds, potentially overshadowing new releases like ‘Baby John’.
Additionally, ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’, which has already collected over Rs 41 crore in India in its debut weekend, could also pose competition, especially in metropolitan areas. The film’s Hindi dubbed version features a star-studded voice cast of Shah Rukh Khan, Aryan Khan, Abram Khan, Sanjay Mishra and Shreyas Talpade.
Directed by Kalees, ‘Baby John’ is a remake of the 2016 Tamil film ‘Theri’, which starred Thalapathy Vijay. However, Varun Dhawan has clarified that significant changes have been made to the storyline to cater to Hindi-speaking audiences. The film boasts a stellar cast, including Jackie Shroff and Rajpal Yadav, and features National Award-winning actress Keerthy Suresh, marking her first release since her recent marriage to Anthony Tattil earlier this month.
The film promises high-octane action sequences, with choreography by eight international action directors, including Anl Arasu, Stunt Silva, and Yannick Ben, among others.
