The Delhi High Court on Tuesday (April 22, 2025) came down heavily on Patanjali founder Baba Ramdev for using communal remarks ‘Sharbat Jihad’ to target Hamdard and its popular drink Rooh Afza.

Mr. Ramdev, in a video introducing the firm’s new drink communally targeted Rooh Afza, a popular sharbat brand.

“Shocks the conscience of the court,” Justice Amit Bansal remarked on Hamdard’s plea against Ramdev.

The hearing is set to continue at 12 noon.

Hamdard has moved Delhi High Court against Mr. Ramdev’s comments after his video went viral. In the video Mr. Ramdev, while introducing Patanjali’s rose sharbat said, “a certain company makes sharbat… but their proceedings go to make mosques. Our proceedings will go to make gurukuls.”

He also said, just like “love jihad,” this is ‘sharbat jihad’

Hamdard National Foundation (India), manufacturer of popular ‘Rooh Afza’ sharbat, is engaged in the business of manufacturing and selling unani and ayurvedic medicines, oils, syrups, and non-alcoholic beverages for over 100 years
