CBI catches BIS Joint Director accepting ₹70,000 bribe


Officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Visakhapatnam, caught Joint Director (Scientist D) of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Vijayawada branch Ramakanth Sagar Muthyala, along with another individual, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹70,000 from an engineering company.

The CBI team trapped the BIS official and representatives of the Bengaluru-based Kronax Engineering & Pressure Vessels Private Limited, while they were giving money to a public servant for an official favour in Hyderabad on Sunday.

A case has been registered against V. Lakshminarayana Reddy alias Babu Reddy, Y. S. Manohar and others for offering bribe to a public servant.

Simultaneous raids were conducted at the Joint Director’s resident in Hyderabad and at the BIS office in Vijayawada. Some incriminating documents have been seized, the CBI said in an official release.

The accused will be produced in the CBI Court, and further investigation are underway.
