Bribery charge: Lokayukta police nab DSP, assistant in Shivamogga


The Karnataka Lokayukta Police, on Tuesday, trapped and arrested T.P. Krishnamurthy, Deputy Superintendent of Police of District Armed Reserve, and M.K. Ravi, Armed Reserve Sub Inspector (ARSI), while accepting a bribe from an armed head constable (AHC).

Prasanna Kumar T.S., AHC, the complainant, has been posted at the office of the Treasury Department in Bhadravati. He wanted to continue in the same post and had also applied for leave. Mr. Krishnamurthy, the DSP, had demanded a bribe of ₹5,000 from him to retain him in the same place and also grant him leave. He had asked the Prasanna Kumar to hand over the amount to ARSI Ravi M.K. The complainant had recorded telephonic conversations with both the officers on the bribe.

The constable, who was not willing to pay the bribe, filed a complaint with the Lokayukta Police on Tuesday. The Lokayukta police conducted the trap at the DSP’s official quarters in the city under the guidance of SP Manjunath Choudhary. They arrested Ravi, also an accused in the case. Lokayukta Inspector Veerabasappa S. Kusalapura has registered the case and taken up the investigation.

It is said that the complainant had cleared a preliminary examination meant for recruitment of civil servants, and he wanted to continue in the same post so that he could prepare for the main examination in his spare time.
