Book ban: DYFI organises protest in Thiruvananthapuram

The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) organised a protest here on Saturday against the book ban imposed by the Jammu and Kashmir Home department.

The DYFI leaders termed the ban an attempt to suppress creativity and freedom of expression.

The protest was organised in front of a bust of Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna Pillai at Palayam during the Palayam-Vilappil zonal youth march of the DYFI. DYFI district secretary Shiju Khan read out excerpts from Azadi: Freedom. Fascism. Fiction, a book of essays by Arundhati Roy which is in the list of the 25 banned books.

DYFI’s Palayam block secretary A. Shanavas, district committee member Vidya Mohan, block president Mahesh and other leaders were present.
