A hilarious rescue drama unfolds as firefighters save goat trapped on sunshade

The Eloor fire station received an unusual rescue call on Friday (April 25, 2025) noon.

A goat had somehow managed to sneak onto the sunshade of a second-floor apartment at Kalamassery and was now trapped there. A five-member team led by station in-charge M.V. Stephen rushed to the spot.

It emerged that the goat found the open gate to the apartment premises far too inviting and strolled in. It had probably gone up the flight of stairs to the second floor and slipped onto the sunshade through a rupture in the grill.

Rescuing the quadruped from the sunshade, however, was not as easy as its climb up had been. Besides, the goat was in no mood to cooperate with its would-be “saviours”.

“A firefighter climbed down to the sunshade. A sort of tag game got under way in the limited confines of the sunshade as the goat kept dodging our guy. The agitated animal even charged at him, and he was lucky to evade one such lunge at his leg. As the possibility of a fall from the sunshade became real, he climbed back,” said Mr. Stephen.

A few people had by then assembled in the area to watch the turn of events.

After a quick round of collective brainstorming, the Fire and Rescue Services personnel decided to first subdue the goat by trapping it with a noose. After several attempts, they finally managed to get the noose around the animal’s neck. One of them then climbed down into the sunshade once again. He caught the animal by its hind legs, lifted it, and gently lowered it to the floor.

The goat was in an obvious state of panic as it tried to wriggle out of the noose. A firefighter grabbed its hind legs again, and another removed the noose, following which the goat found its way down the stairs and strolled out of the apartment premises.
